UPDATE:

May 25, 2020 marks the one year anniversary of the murder of Gerardine Butterfield, who was 63 years old at the time of the homicide.

Gerardine was located deceased on May 25th, 2019.  Through investigation, it is believed she was killed several days prior to being located.

Gerardine lived alone and only allowed very few immediate family members to visit her.  It would be very unusual for her to let anyone else into her apartment.  She lived a very quiet life and would only leave the apartment with family.

Any persons seen with Gerardine, attempting to contact Gerardine at her apartment or leaving her apartment around the time of the homicide, outside of regular family visitors, would be considered suspicious persons/activity.  Anyone who may have seen any such activity around the time of the homicide is requested to contact police.

The Major Crime Branch continues to actively investigate the homicide and a person of interest has been identified. However, investigators would like to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have further information.

We would like to remind the public that although at times people may not think something they saw or heard would be significant to an investigation, it may be the one piece of information police are seeking.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com
